Chiropractic Can Reduce High Blood Pressure

One in three adults has high blood pressure. Of those people with high blood pressure, 77.6 percent were aware of their condition, and two thirds (2/3) were getting treatment, the most common being medication.Incredibly in 90% of cases the cause is not even known, let alone addressed. Medication then is really just treating the symptom (ie. the hypertension). There are now studies looking deeper at the cause of hypertension. A number of recent studies suggest that specific neck adjustments can help reduce hypertension. The position of the atlas at the base of the skull can affect brainstem function, Why It Works and affect blood pressure. The C1 vertebra, or Atlas, located at the top of the spine, operates like a fuse box in the body. Minor misalignment of the Atlas can injure, impair, compress and/or compromise important brainstem neural pathways. The relationship between hypertension and circulatory abnormalities in the area around the Atlas vertebra and base of the brain has been known for more than 40 years. So it should be no surprise that a chiropractic adjustment to that area could prove effective in reducing hypertension. What is a surprise though is how effective adjusting this area is. As effective as up to TWO hypertension medications! As the prevalence of hypertension increases, and people are seeking a more natural alternative seeking a treatment that has almost no side effects and holistic in approach is an obvious choice.

PUT YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD

Just Start Walking is the title of National Chiropractic Care Week (NCCW) in Australia which runs from 23-29 May this year. While we are living in more mobile times thanks to portable technology, physically we are less active.

In Australia the Just Start Walking initiative is highlighting the importance of keeping active, the benefits this can offer to your overall wellbeing and spinal health, as well as encourage regular physical activity. At Marbella Chiropractic we believe that this is so important that we have decided to have the same week here.

The human body is designed for movement, so to keep your spine at its best we need to stay active. One of the best things you can do for your health, and your spine is regular exercise. We are encouraging you all to increase your level of physical activity during this week.

At this time of year along the Costa del Sol it is just so nice to be outdoors there really is no excuse for being inactive: bright and sunny, and the smells, sounds and sights of spring. Walking is also simple, inexpensive, easy and achievable. If you haven’t been active in a while it is advisable to start slowly and gradually increase the time and intensity of your walking. If you are unsure of how to start, talk to us or seek some professional advice.

Walking 30 min a day has numerous health benefits ranging from improved circulation, combating depression, strengthening the immune system, preventing osteoporosis, prevent and control diabetes as well as control weight.

During this week we will highlight the importance of posture and mobility on overall health and wellbeing. At our health talk (open to everyone) we will cover correct sitting posture at the desk and computer, as well as some exercises you can do to improve your posture and the health of your spine.

During NCCW and the following week (23 May to 3 June) we are offering a FREE initial consultation. A saving of €55 Euros. This is the only time of year we will have this offer. If you haven’t been in for a while have a free computerised posture assessment with your next check up. We only have a limited number of spaces available for both these offers.

We look forward to seeing you all soon,

The Marbella Chiropractic Team
