Is 50 the new 40?
If 50 years of age is the new 40, it can only be if you keep the spine and nervous system of a 40 year old! With our attendance at the Over 50’s show at the end of November what are the benefits of chiropractic in this age group? It is also timely to look at the benefits to spending money and effort on preventative health such as maintenance chiropractic as the climate in Spain and beyond is resulting in tighter scrutiny of how we handle our finances and spend on our health. Should we stop the gym membership, buying expensive but healthier foods and chiropractic maintenance/wellness visits and just keep our money for those health emergencies?
The answer is not complex. Preventive care is inexpensive long-term care because it protects your future health, by creating health now. Medical and pharmaceutical advances have only had a small effect on our overall health. In fact, 25 of the 30 years added to life expectancy in the past century are due to advances in preventive and public health. Bottom line, health is all about your lifestyle!
So what about chiropractic? A US study found Chiropractic patients receiving maintenance care, when compared with US citizens of the same age, spent only 31% of the national average for health care services and reported a 50% reduction in medical provider visits. The health habits of patients receiving maintenance care were better overall than the general population, including decreased use of nonprescription drugs. Furthermore, 95.8% believed their chiropractic care to be either “considerably” or “extremely” valuable.
The specific benefits of chiropractic on those who are getting older are numerous, so we will only list what some latest studies show:
Elderly are relieved of their pain, and so able to enjoy life more, sleep better and do more activities.
Increased range of motion of the spine and limbs: being able to bend down to lift up their grandchildren, or play golf...well.
Improved balance: feeling confident to walk up and down stairs, and less fear of a fall and reduced risk of fracture. This is a significant problem as we start to age.
Joint deterioration is reduced: less arthritis and slow or stop accelerated aging. Keep younger longer.
We have a great promotional offer at our stand at the Over 50’s show in Estapona on 26th and 27th November. If you would like to get your posture assessed or know someone who has been considering chiropractic this is a great way to learn more about how you can have better health and a better life with Chiropractic. See you at the Over 50’s show!
